THE PLAY
In the summer of 1873 in Del Valle, Texas, former slave owner White Poppa is dead. Upon his passing, Nathaniel Haws, his mixed-race son, encounters Minerva Simmons, an Irish traveler with a haunted past. When Nat's relationship with Minerva moves from the field to the ranch house, their growing intimacy teaches both generations of Haws men – alive and dead – the true meaning of legacy and identity.
OUR STORY
Onion Creek was first developed by playwright Roger Q. Mason under the guidance of Pulitzer-winner Lynn Nottage at Princeton University in 2007. It received workshop presentations at Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA and The Dramatists Guild. This production will be supervised by Padua Playwrights' artistic director, Guy Zimmerman, under whose direction the company has staged over 25 productions of new plays, including three in New York and three abroad.
