CCF 2012

COMPANY CREATION FESTIVAL
IS ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS NOW THROUGH JULY 15

Son of Semele Ensemble presents
the 3rd annual…
Company Creation Festival

Four new works generated by ensembles, presented in repertory
January 9 – March 3, 2013

What is the Company Creation Festival?

CCF is an opportunity for theatre companies and ensembles working in unconventional methods, genres and/or styles to present their new and evolving works in a supportive environment and with subsidized space, resources, and staff/production support. Each production receives free rehearsal space, designers, house staff, a small fee and 10 performances which are run in repertory with three other productions. CCF encourages the submission of devised works or ideas for newly devised works. We also accept submissions from companies producing non-devised plays that are bold in their form and content.

What kinds of projects should submit to the Festival?

**Adventurous work with an emphasis on company-devised work. We are looking for projects that are theatrical and pushing the envelope.

**Self-contained projects with committed production staff and a list of experienced artists. The more solid and impressive your company/team, the more attractive your project is for the festival.

**Companies/Artists that share a strong sense of community and will therefore demonstrate a commitment to the festival as a whole.

Why is the deadline so early?

We make our deadline early because we want to allow companies that are submitting concepts for generating new works to have adequate time to dive into those ideas if they are selected for the festival.

What does the festival provide?

**30 hours of rehearsal time in the theater

**Printed postcards, Facebook, Website and other marketing resources

**House staff at all performances

**A lighting designer and sound technician

**A $300 fee paid at strike to each selected production.

**10 comps for the run of your performances.

What does each selected show provide?

**The production.

**All production elements (scenic, prop, costume, etc.)

**A stage manager and any other technical staffing you require.

**Any fees paid to your actors, artists, etc.

**A commitment to help CCF promote the festival as a whole.

When can we expect to hear if we are selected?

We will select our 2013 participants by early August.

Is there a submission fee?

Hell no.

Are artists paid?

The festival will pay each participating company a small fee of $300 to help off-set some of the costs of production, but we're afraid that CCF does not yet have the capacity to pay more than that. The checks are cut to the artists after your strike and assuming that all 10 performances were presented.

Where is the festival presented?

The festival is presented in Los Angeles at the home of Son of Semele Ensemble in the Silver Lake neighborhood. Our theater has 36 seats and the stage is approximately 18 x 18, with a height of 14 feet. We have theatre sound and lighting, including a directional sound system with subwoofer, and a lighting inventory which includes LEDs, strobes, a moving-light and adequate traditional theatrical fixtures.

When are performances?

CCF performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

If applying, please note these important dates.

Saturday, November 10, 2012. Morning -- a mixer for all participants (cast, crew, etc.). Each production will talk a bit about their show to help everyone understand the work that the festival will include. Following this mixer, producers, directors and stage managers will stay for a 1-hour meeting to cover logistical information and contracts.
Sunday, March 3, 2013. Evening. -- festival closing night party after the final curtain.

Details on the venue:

Address: Son of Semele Theater, 3301 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90004.
Seating: 36 seats.
Stage Dimensions: 18’ wide x 16’ deep x 13’ tall.

**Storage:The theater has very little storage for large scenic elements. You are encouraged to submit projects with removable furniture or items that take up little space when stored. Of course, you are welcome to take your items with you after each block of performances.

**Lighting: We have 28 dimmers and many will be used for the rep plot which will offer a variety of areas and color washes. Beyond that, each show will control 2-4 specials to suit their specific lighting needs. Shows heavily dependent upon lighting effects are not be a good fit for this festival because of the need to share the plot.

**Sound: The space has 2 main speakers behind the stage (L & R), 2 secondary speakers behind the risers (L & R) and 1 subwoofer under the risers. All speakers can be individually controlled for directional sound.

**Dressing Room & Bathroom: There is one dressing room (12x12) and one bathroom (shared with the audience). Casts of 8 or more people find it crowded backstage. Large casts will be difficult to accommodate.
