BARELY LAUGHING

Aaron Nov 18

The home stretch. BARE exists as the final gasps of holding on to life - It is one long Last Rites Ritual and the Pope must administer the final prayers. Spent the day channeling Terri's final words, final release into oblivion. Tough stuff. When she says goodbye, not a dry eye in my house - well, my studio apartment anyway.
Can't wait to see what tomorrow's rehearsal brings - Want to hear the cast and Don dig into the new, tight shape of the piece and, since they are all familiar with what has been cut, bring that knowledge to the now spare text.
This process has taught me what this play is about. I only realized recently whose story this truly is and for that I am forever thankful.
Almost beating.
Beep. Boom.

just reread all of Aaron's blogs from the Bear diaries---- I hope the company reads them. he is a very very gifted writer... and a brave one. to take a two act play and cut it down to 58 pages takes guts and integrity--- which Aaron has. It has been inspirational working on this piece. It is new everytime we come to rehearse and yet we are, somehow, finding our way to the truth of it. it is also exciting to rehearse with a "workshop" production as our goal... i dont think theatre productions should ever be expected to be finished as they live anew each evening.... so I am appreciating the clarity of this project: knowing that the production will reflect weeks of hard work and offer a work in progress. i know the evening will be powerful for those who attend---the director has a deep insight into the work, the cast is so strong and committed and the play approaches opera sometimes with its sounds and passion...

and we have one more week. i long ago abandoned any idea of what the experience of performing the piece will be like. that, like the rest of this journey, will probably surprise me and move me to important discoveries about why I act in the first place and what it is really for.

and great news today--- jonathan joined us as the stage manager. old home week for the Mysteries crowd now rolling around in Bare barf!!! welcome jonathan and thanks.
